There are several small outbuildings throughout the grounds which have had various uses in the past. The building at the north end of the property was once used to house a Japanese gardener but had fallen into a state of disrepair and was no longer in use. With funding from the Community Foundation of the North Okanagan the building underwent an extensive renovation in 2005 into two artist studios and a washroom facility.

Joan Herriot Studio and Studio Juul - After renovation

The area in front of the Joan Herriot Studio and Studio Juul was once used as a dog run for the large Pyrenees dogs owned by the Caetanis. In more recent years it was neglected and allowed to become over grown and unusable. However, while carrying out the studio renovation project funds were also directed towards creating a courtyard in this area for people to gather at events and to sit and enjoy the sound of the water feature and the surrounding gardens on quieter days.

A building called the Dance Studio carries the name because previous tenants of the house used it for ballroom dancing practice. It has been used more recently as a seasonal artist studio during the summer months. In June of 2008 however, it was upgraded with insulation, running water and heating to provide another year round studio.

The upgrades to the Dance studio were made possible by a generous donation from the Kalamalka Rotary Club. Their donation also made it possible to renovate the old building where the Caetani dogs used to sleep. In June 2008 the building was converted into a fourth artist studio and a washroom facility that will accommodate a wheelchair.

The final phase of the 2008 renovations was completed by the extension of the courtyard around the new studios and surrounded by new beds with native plants.

Courtyard

Ninfa Studio has been named after the famous Italian gardens at Ninfa, set on the ancestral lands of the Caetani family in Italy.

The 'Wendy House' is another outbuilding which used to be Sveva's playhouse. It has been used as a potting shed until recently and will be the next building to undergo renovations, perhaps into a Potter's studio.

The latest addition to the grounds is a straw bale building, built by Tyler Perrault to be used as a tool shed. The eco-friendly storehouse could last for centuries and will hopefully be admired by future generations as an example of our efforts to protect and preserve our environment.

None of these renovations would have been possible without the help of grant funding from HRDC, and material donations from local businesses. Our thanks go to The Caetani Cultural Centre is also indebted to the Vernon Rotary for their continued support willing team of volunteers.
